GERTRUDE
A downloadable game
This game was created for a game jam. One of the requirements was that we create a devlog documenting the development process. The devlog for this entry can be found as a blog post on my website or as a downloadable PDF in the downloads section of this page.
The Story
You are a General Errand Robot Tasked with Reducing Unwanted Duties Efficiently (G.E.R.T.R.U.D.E), finding purpose and meaning in a post-human world.
Your creators are gone and the planet they left behind is inhabited only by mindless animals and robots. After countless years trundling around the home of your former owners, you've decided to head out into the world, but world is unrecognisable. Can you find your way back to civilisation?
About the Game
The short answer is no, you can't. Because this is basically a prototype demo created as a learning exercise for the Learn You a Game Jam. There is one level which, in the context of a full game, would be called a tutorial level. In the context of this game, it is the entire project.
How to Play
Use WASD keys to move around, space bar to jump, shift key to dash (when you have that ability) and the escape key to exit the game. Gamepads are also supported. Use the mouse or right analogue stick to look around.
You have a module slot that allows you to plug in feature modules that grant you additional abilities. Unfortunately, being a budget model, you only have one slot, so you can only use one feature module at a time.
This is my interpretation of the jam theme: "Only 1 Inventory Slot"
Navigate the level to find the feature modules you need to cross the river and finish the demo.
Credits
This project was made in Godot 4.2.2 (C#), with assets made in Blender, Krita, and Aseprite. There are no third party assets in the project and everything was made during the jam by me. This is an entirely solo project, though my Twitch chat were very helpful.

b3agz you absolutely smashed your goals of improving your Blender skills. G.E.R.T.R.U.D.E.'s animations were fun and full of personality. Well done! <3
